Have you really protected everything?

By now you already know that having a security system for your small business is a must but is it performing at its maximum potential or is it operating at its minimum capabilities? Will an intruder be able to snatch up one or more of your valuable assets and leave before the police arrive? Don’t wait to find out - Do something about it! You can set up your security system to do more than just sound an alarm when someone breaks in. What about double protecting your assets? Hackers are constantly keeping up with technology and they know how to access any computer, cell phone, or tablet you may have to get into your network. You need to be diligent and protect your assets and your information.  Keeping your electronics in a locked and monitored room is a good way to keep track of your equipment. At the end of each day have your employees shut down the company electronics and if they are portable, lock them away. This will minimize the number of electronics a hacker has access to and an intruder can steal. You can have the lock be as fancy or as simple as you please. A nifty card swipe reader will allow only authorized and trusted employees to access the locked room. A simple passcode lock means every employee can have access but an intruder would have another layer of protection to get through. Affordable Telephone Systems can help you install the security system that will leave criminals who attack your business empty handed. Call them today!

Enhance the Speed of Your Office

Almost all businesses run some type of a database, whether it is a medical office that has a patient database, a retail store with an inventory database, or a service based company like a plumber who has a client database. Everyone has the need to either store information, download information, or send information. The type of data cabling your office runs on could be affecting the speed at which your employees work. If you can only download less than one gigabit per minute you are handicapping your employees and you should give serious thought to upgrading to structured data cabling.
There are three types of structured data cabling and the needs of your office will determine what a telephone company will install. A Cat5e is the most economical structured data cabling. It can transmit up to one gigabit of information and is a good choice for many small businesses. Cat6 structured data cabling has the capacity to transmit larger amounts of information up to 10 gigabits. Cat7 structured data cabling has the same capacity that the Cat6 structured data cabling has only it is shielded which makes it less prone to electromagnetic interferences. Structured data cabling is the way to go in order to keep your business running at peak efficiency. Just remember that improper installation can wreak havoc on your structured data cabling system so be sure to hire expert structured data cabling installation professionals. Make Affordable Telephone Systems your one stop shop for all your structured voice and data cabling needs. They will help you get your office outfitted with the best structured data cabling for your company. Decoding Common Telephone System Acronyms

Acronyms are popping up everywhere, we see them on social media (SMH), text them to our friends (OMG), and now they are advancing on the workplace. An acronym is an abbreviation derived from the first part of a word or phrase. As technology continues to grow at a break neck speed we must keep pace with what these telephone system acronyms are and what they mean.
This will help to stay in the know in the midst of an ever expanding world. If you have ever Googled telephone systems you will see many acronyms that have begun sneaking into articles. VoIP, or “Voice over Internet Protocol”, is the most common acronym you will come across.  It means the phone service is sending voice packets over an internet connection instead of a standard phone line. IP PBX is another common term. This stands for “Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchange” which is the exchange service used to make an IP call. PSTN stands for “Public Switched Telephone Network” which does the same thing as an IP PBX only it is used to connect landline circuits. It is more commonly known as POTS or “Plain Old Telephone Service”. UC stands for “Unified Communications”. UC helps integrate a wide variety of devices so they can all work together to keep their users connected. For the telephone world this means you can now listen to your voicemail via an email or send a fax from your cell phone. UC is a huge advance for the business world because you can access/send/receive information from anywhere which leads us to our last few acronyms; SIP or “Session Initiation Protocol”, IM or “Instant Message”, and VC or “Video Conference”. SIP is how calls are initially set up and then how they convey data. Once the connection has been made via a SIP you can IM, VC, or just make a regular telephone call. Knowing these acronyms means you know what telephone systems can do to improve your business and how to properly research and communicate with people about telephone systems.
